It was one of those days where everything piles up, and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. So I went to Winn-Dixie for my usual shopping. As I was passing through the produce section I saw an elderly man that reminded me of my father, who had recently passed away.
I smiled at him as I walked by, but didn’t think much of it afterwards. I finished up my shopping, checked out at the counter, and started carrying my bags through the parking lot to my car. I heard a voice behind me, so I paused for a moment. When I turned around I saw the elderly man catching up to me with a single red rose in his outstretched hand. “You have no idea how much I needed that smile today,” he said as he handed me the rose.
I couldn’t believe it. “You have no idea how much I needed this!” I answered honestly and close to tears. I thanked him again and he returned to his shopping as I packed up the car. Just like that, both of our moods were lifted. It’s amazing what a simple smile can do.
